While some companies will always undoubtedly fall in hard times others come to the fore and take the opportunity to expand. Sainsburys are fortifying their presence on the Island by purchasing the Somerfield stores in Cowes and Freshwater. These stores will undergo major revamps to carry the Sainsburys brand. Based on information from the Sainsbury's site it is also believed stores will be opened in Sandown and Shanklin. With ex Woolworths shops being great locations. The reason for the closure of the Somerfield stores in Cowes and Freshwater is due to the takeover of Somerfield by the CO-OP group it makes sense for them to sell off these locations rather than rebranding as we already have those stores in town.
